Material outgas refers to the emissions of gas or materials, which can occur in rubbers under vacuum or other environmental conditions. In some applications, outgassing can result in undesirable contamination. Hence, KEF provides low outgassing micro seals for applications sensitive to volatile contamination. We use select high purity materials manufactured in a class 100 clean room facility to ensure high cleanliness, and minimal contamination.
Features of Low Outgassing Micro Seals
Low outgassing micro seals are designed for applications such as medical devices and sensitive instruments. We recommend specialized materials with low emissions. We can furthermore manufacture low outgassing materials into miniaturized and complicated shapes through automated processing.
Applications for Low Outgassing Micro Seals
These seals are best in assemblies that require minimal contamination or minimal volatility. For instance, low outgassing seals have historically been used in hard drives, to prevent contamination that can cause damage hard disks. We additionally specialize in tiny low outgassing components for use in applications such as:
KEF manufactures low outgassing micro seals from specialized materials. We provide expertise in standard and customized rubber compounds and as a result can produce extremely low out-gassing rubber components.
Standard Low Outgassing Rubber Materials
Ethylene-Propylene Copolymer (EPDM)
Fluorocarbon Rubber (FKM)
Delta Low Emission Rubber Series
In addition to the standard compounds above, we provide custom compound to meet specialized needs. KEF has extensive experience working with rubber materials including Isobutylene-isoprene rubber (IIR), Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM), and Fluorocarbon Rubber (FKM) and therefore can produce high performing materials with specialized features. For example, we provide compounds with features ranging from maximizing gas penetration resistance, to maximizing seal longevity. We can also provide compounds free from sulfide, chloride, siloxane, and odors.
KEF can additionally provide a variety of other seal materials to meet your needs. Learn more about our extensive selection of micro seal materials.
